What Do I Do Next?

In the book titled “Eat That Frog” by Brian Tracy, he says, “If the first thing you do when you wake up in the morning is eat a live frog, then nothing worse can happen for the rest of the day!”

If you have a list of ten items to do, two of those items will turn out to be worth five or ten times or more than the other eight items put together. This concept of what is most important and will give the biggest payback is easier to say than to do in practice. We adamantly must refuse to work on tasks in the bottom 80 percent while we still have tasks in the top 20 percent. The most valuable tasks we should do each day are often the hardest and most complex. The payoff and rewards for efficiently completing these tasks can be tremendous.

The journey to success starts with our first step. Getting started is hard. Once we take the first step and work on a valuable task, will we not be motivated to continue? I used to work for IBM. In the old days, there were THINK signs written in many different languages: RAISONNER, RIFLETTERE, REFLEXIONAR, DANK, TISH, etc. Then there was a cartoon where THINK was crossed out and replaced with WORK!

Thinking about starting and finishing an important task does not cut it. If we start and achieve success, this will help us overcome procrastination. Time management really is not managing time. It is management of our life: personal, family affairs, business and your spiritual needs. Time management is controlling what you do next. We are free to choose the task that we will do next. Our ability to choose between the important and the unimportant is the key determinant of our success in life and work.

Do what you should do, when you should do it, whether you feel like it or not.
