"Support AFCI Safety" was created to educate homeowners, electrical contractors, home builders, state code adoption panels and others about the fire-prevention and potentially life-saving benefits of installing arc-fault circuit interrupters (AFCIs) during new home construction. AFCIs are a nationally recognized home electrical safety device designed to prevent electrical fires from destroying the home.
As the 2011 National Electrical Code requirement for AFCIs continues to be discussed throughout the country, this site will serve as an information center where visitors can learn about the benefits of installing AFCI technology in the home, hear the latest updates from state code adoption panels, learn about upcoming meetings, and click on links to view media reports and other important AFCI educational materials.
AFCIs have the full support of a growing list of nationally prominent fire and electrical safety groups, including the National Fire Protection Association, the Electrical Safety Foundation International, the International Association of Electrical Inspectors, the National Association of State Fire Marshals and the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). In fact, the CPSC believes that the AFCI form of circuit breaker, if installed in all homes, could prevent more than 50 percent of the 28,300 electrical fires that occur annually.
