Report Out from the January Board of Directors Meeting


ASHI's final board meeting of the year was held January 25, 2011, in conjunction with InspectionWorld in Atlanta, Georgia. This is a report to the ASHI membership of the actions taken during the meeting. It is not the official minutes as discussion items and withdrawn or failed motions are not included. The official minutes of this meeting will be presented for Board approval at its next meeting on April 30 in Rosemont, Ill.

Members are encouraged to review the report in order to be fully informed of actions taken on their behalf. They also are encouraged to contact ASHI officers and directors with their questions. See the online member directory for contact information.

Officers and directors participated in a team-building exercise in the morning and the Board meeting convened at 1:15 pm.

I. Opening Remarks

Minutes for the October 22, 2010, Board meeting were reviewed and approved.

ASHI Lobbyist, Randy Pence, updated the Board on federal legislative activities of importance to ASHI and its members.

II. Motions approved
Following a Chapter Task Force Report from Charles Gifford, the following motions were passed:

A. The ASHI Board will send the report, the chart of the Leadership Training Conference work group and the suggested revisions to the "2010 ASHI Policy & Procedures manual – 07 ASHI Chapter Relations" to the Chapter Relations Committee to review and to formulate plans to strengthen the chapters.

B. The ASHI Board set a strategic goal to provide support services to ASHI Chapters. ASHI staff is charged with researching the need, cost and finance options to support the selected services:

1. Membership roles and recruitment

2. Reduction of workload on our chapter volunteers
3. Assist in meeting planning, etc.

4. Assist in regional training seminars, planning and implementation

5. Messaging and distribution of messages and training resources.

C. The ASHI Board sent the suggested Chapter Charter Agreement for new chapters to the Chapter Relations Committee for review andcomment and eventual forwarding for legal review.

D. The ASHI Board charged the Membership and Certification Committees to discuss the feasibility and make recommendations to theBoard to broaden our membership categories to include all professional working inspections.
