2013 ASHI Membership Survey

In March of this year 1,443 of you responded to our latest membership survey. The staff at ASHI is busy comparing these results to those of the 2010 survey along with comments and suggestions you provided. One person wrote that he hoped we would not take these results as a simple “pat on the back” and then dismiss them. Nothing could be further from the truth. ASHI takes these results seriously and is examining what you—the membership—are saying and how we can apply that to better the organization. For instance, we know from your responses that ASHI chapter membership is a valued benefit but that some of you are frustrated because of the distance to the nearest chapter. That is why we added question 26 this year to see if some of you would be interested in attending a “virtual meeting” (some type of meeting, education session, etc., that you could access via the internet). Over 62% said yes, they would be interested. And with modern technology evolving so quickly, that is something ASHI takes seriously.

Overall, the statistics compare favorably to the 2010 results. We see that you still value your ASHI membership and what ASHI represents. Over 83% of you see ASHI as the primary national “voice” of the home inspection profession as opposed to 78% three years ago. And 74% see your ASHI membership as giving you a competitive edge over non-ASHI members. We also see that the number one benefit value again is the ASHI Reporter.

Please take a few moments to look over what your fellow members think of ASHI and its efforts. (Questions with (NEW) next to them are ones that were not asked in the 2010 survey.) Do you agree or disagree? After all, this is YOUR association. It is up to each of you to take ownership of ASHI—take advantage of its benefits, use it to promote your business and represent yourself in a manner befitting anyone wearing the ASHI logo.
